Yummy Yams!

Yummy Yams!
Harvested enough for dinner tonight- roasted yams..delicious!
Yams do surprisingly well in the Food Forest.
The process starts with a visit to the supermarket- I just fill a bag with yams. Then when I get home I pop a handful of yams into a few spots straight into the soil - marking that spot with a suitable twig so that next time I come around to that spot I'm not tempted to plant something else into that nice clear spot 🤣
Then you wait for winter, and after the first frosts you can start to harvest them. The frosts apparently sweeten them up.
And the good news is- because you never harvest all the yams you've basically got yams for life..you can go back to that spot next year and they will have grown again.
The picture of the yams shown is in an old compost bin segment- and the funny thing is that the yams were spread out way past the boundaries of the compost bin- making their bid for freedom! And I'm very happy to support them in that!
