Winter Solstice 2025!
Winter Solstice 2025! Shortest day of the year for us here in Aotearoa- only around 9 hours of daylight.

My main work in the Food Forest at this time of year is "chopping and dropping"- trimming back and cutting out all the growing plants that I don't want to make space for the plants that I do want.
But here's the thing: Mid-winter and it's cold days often with rain- and yet when you start the chop n drop- you can see that everything is poised to start growing. The thornless blackberry new vines starting to grow, the elder showing new signs of growth, and of course the snowflakes giving it everything they've got with a beautiful display.
So even in this winter part of the year when it is "a time of rest" well it isn't really!
