New Chook House
Latest project! New Chook House for my "special" chickens- the girls that I want to keep a close eye on! The little chook pictured is blind- so she stays close to home. The other chook is my lucky (or unlucky depending on how you look at it) chook. I don't have favorites- but if I did she would be it.
Her story- first off, when she was a baby she got attacked by some preadator- and had a broken leg. So in she came into our house to be looked after. And against the odds she survived and recovered the use of her leg- you'd never know now.
And then- because she is more friendly, she found her way into my shop. Trevor the dog took exception to that and gave her a big bite on the bum as she was flying out. I found her a couple of days later- in a very sad condition. A nasty bite that had got infected. Stunk to high heaven. So back she came into the house- smell and all. I remember sitting with her on my lap in front of the fire, listennig to her raspy breathing- thinking "this is it..she's on her way out". But miracles do happen- the raspy breathing turned out to be chicken snoring noises. And she has healed and is back to normal. She gives Trev a wide berth though. He is a bit jealous of her and we growl at him if he even looks at her.
This chicken coop should keep them nice and safe- and there's not too many chook houses out there with living thatched roofs for insulation!
