Beautiful Wild Plants!
A beautiful reminder of why the wild plants are so important in the Food Forest!
There were 3 of these rare NZ butterflies enjoying the wild carrot plant- plus countless other insects. A joy to see. And if our garden was "tidy" then there would be much less habitat for the butterflies and other insects. As it is- well we're literally humming!
This plant- also known as Queen Annes Lace or white carrot is often seen growing alongside roads. It gets sprayed and/ or mowed constantly- anything to get rid of it. Shame really when you look at the life that one little plant can support.
And- well of course- the carrot bit is edible. It's just not the usual orange colour we're used to!
