Autumn Asters!

You know it's Autumn when the Asters get going! Very pretty clouds of beautiful blue flowers- enjoyed by us, and probably more so by the bees!
Such a shame it only lasts for a short time- the rest of the year you have to put up with a fairly boring amount of green leaves. Anyhoo- who am I to judge!
And just for the record- yes Aster flowers are edible. They have an interesting taste which is hard to describe. I definitely think they would make a good addition to a salad.
Also, I am reliably informed by Google that the young leaves and the roots are edible- the Native American people harvested wild aster for a multitude of uses. The roots of the plant were used in soups and young leaves were cooked lightly and used as greens.
So my next move may be to wait for winter and dig up some roots! And no more complaining about boring green leaves either!
