Damson plum tree
Young damson plum tree in full production. Plums aren't ripe yet so a bit of a waiting game going on. Last year we had only a few plums- and they were yummy. We basically leave them until they are fully ripe- almost over-ripe and then eat them. The tree holds onto the plums really well. Having said that I have discovered a couple of little plum trees growing underneath the tree so we must have missed a couple!
Plans this year- well I don't want to count my plums before they're ripe- but it's nice to think we may have enough for a bit of jam or chutney. I might even try a damson syrup- be amazing to capture that beautiful almost black colour.
And last but not least- apparently damsons aren't plums at all! Wikipedia advises: According to Wikipedia…. The main difference between damsons and plums is actually more to do with the shape than the taste. Damsons are smaller than plums and don't have the distinct longitudinal groove that plums typically have.
